on durians
hahas. weird title i know. well today went to visit my grandparents and well. when i got there, immediately went to buy some durians with my grandpa. so well we took our time to walk across to the market opposite where there was this lone stall selling the green stuff(sounds veggieish) . and thus began the selection process by my grandpa. well...come to think of it there wasn't much selecting that he did. it was more of the shopkeeper(yes the guy with the really sharp knife that hacks away at the durians.) opening the durians and showing the meat(flesh? or wadever. hahas. wonder why we call it meat when it obviously ain't) to my grandfather. and my grandfather in return. poked the flesh to test if the durians were good. hm. i wonder how it all works...but yeah well after poking into 11 durians, we decided at last to stop. yes. the shopkeeper was really good. he juz kept going without us noticing how many durians there were. be wary people. these wily shopkeepers may juz catch u offguard and manage to rip off that few more bucks from u. well and aside from the durians there, my grandpa took the chance to get some rambutans too. yeah. and being the rookie at marketing...buying foods and all, i din really know what to do when my grandpa gave me one of those (furry? hairy?) fruits to test. well i tried to squish it to open it much to the amusement of my grandpa and the shopkeeper. ahhas. but i wasn't allowed to do so as my grandpa took the fruit out of my hands and promptly twisted half the skin off. revealing the sweet centre. aha. the hands of a veteran. well. yep and we bought 3kgs worth of rambutans. and yet again. the shopkeeper does something cool to earn more money. yes. he juz goes $2 bucks for 3kgs. no less. and so we had to get 3kg worth of it. and he grabbed as branchy rambutans as there were(well they came stuck to branches...) to add to the weight with the branches. =). the art of deception! hahas. but yep...it was really cheap so we din really bother. in the end we paid a total of 22 bucks for all the stuff we got. with the shopkeeper reassuring us time and again that the durians he gave us were of good quality.well.he threw away a load of them while selecting those for us...maybe it was just to convince us haha but they turned out to be quite ok. and as an added way to gain our trust he took off the charge on the 11th durian. hahas. yep ki wong's sweet theory. lol . hmm. had a great time eating and opening them durians with my family. =). hahas. even my 10 mth old cousin had some. haha. though he prob din know how to enjoy them. wonder when was the last time i ever went to get durians with my grandpa. so long that i'd already forgotten about it.
yepp. and talked with my aunt and uncles. hahas. the discussion was about the different types of durians. the dry...wet..yellow...pale...bitter and sweet. ahas. and how the pattern of a batch of durians may even give a sense to how it may taste.(o0 i wouldn't know). yeah. and another interesting fact...that bitter meat meant more money. hahas. it seems that all my uncles and aunts loved the bitter durians. hahas. i on the other hand was content with the sweet ones =). maybe its someting with adults and children thing. hahas. bitter to sweet. beer to coke. work to play. see the parallel? . hahas.
anyways tmrs monday.
means a new week. can't wait. its gonna be an eventful one =).
